At New Bern Fire - Rescue, big hearts are dedicated to protecting your community. NBFR is currently accepting applications for volunteers to help in times of emergencies, natural disasters and rescue relief. You don’t need experience, and no previous training is required. You just need to understand that you are getting back much more than you are giving.

In addition to serving as another citizen’s lifesaver, the National Volunteer Fire Council offers every volunteer firefighter the opportunity for:

  • Free education through the community college system
  • Free immunizations and physicals
  • Pension and health plans
  • Exclusive license plates
  • Workers’ compensation
  • Multiple insurance plans
  • Placement in a career firefighter position
  • …and many more. View the complete list.
